Hit-and-Run Awareness Day

Since today is hit-and-run awareness day, I am dedicating this post to the memory of a member of my family, Sean Pearce. On July 15, 2005, Sean was riding his bicycle home when he was struck by a car and left behind. He was 29.

According to current law, if a driver is involved in an accident resulting in the injury or death of a pedestrian, the driver is required to stop at the scene and, if found under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they may be sentenced to a minimum of three years in prison. If the driver flees the scene where the injured pedestrian dies, that driver is subject to a minimum of only one year in prison. Where is the logic? Contact your local government to increase the penalty for drivers that flee the scene.
