Some friends and I took a drive down to Blairsville to visit the Old Torrance State Mental Institution Staff Quarters. I did some quick Google searching and learned that the institution was built in 1919 by Mrs. Torrance-the wife of the founder of the town. In the 1960's, the PA Department of Health shut it down due to patient overflow... but according to sources, it was shut down due to patient cruelty.
